Here’s what you need to know about your insurance claim.
Dealing with an insurance claim is never a pleasant experience. We understand that you’re already upset about what happened and just want to get back to your normal life as quickly as possible.
A knowledgeable insurance agent will guide you through the process, helping you decide whether to file a claim or not and advising you on the best course of action.
During the claims process, there are a few important things your insurance agent wants you to know about your insurance claim.
Once you file a claim, the adjuster or claims representative becomes your primary point of contact, rather than your insurance agent. However, your insurance agent is always willing and ready to assist you in any way they can.
It’s important to be patient with your adjuster, especially during busy seasons when claims are more frequent, such as an increase in deer/car claims during the fall. The adjuster should reach out to you within 24 hours once your claim is filed.
Different types of claims have varying turnaround times from filing to closure. For example, a deer strike on an auto policy will typically be resolved more quickly than a multi-car accident with injuries, especially if there is a dispute over fault.
Keep in mind that your adjuster’s phone number may have a different area code than yours, so be vigilant about answering calls from unfamiliar numbers to avoid missing important updates.
If you’re unhappy with how your claim is being handled or are having trouble reaching your adjuster, don’t hesitate to ask your insurance agent for help. They can contact the adjuster on your behalf and work towards getting your claim moving in the right direction.
Once the claims process has started with the carrier, the insurance agency is often left out of the loop. However, a great insurance agent will check in with you to see how your claim is progressing and offer support.
It’s important to note that your insurance agent cannot make decisions about claims; that responsibility lies with the carrier. If you’re dissatisfied with their decision, follow up with them directly. While we strive to make the process as painless as possible, there are limitations to what we can do.
